OPeNDAP allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into matlab use 
loaddap('http://129.236.110.25/SOURCES/.NASA/.LISOTD/.Clim/.Climatology/%5BX%5Ddifferences/T+differences/dods')
